Kitten Update

Introducing, from left to right, Mimi, Gigi, Kiki and Fifi!
My little feral foster kittens are doing so much better! They purr when I pick them up and are becoming very social and cuddly. They are still quite wary of other people, so at this point, I'm just trying to bring everyone who comes over to the house in to meet them...the UPS guy seemed very surprised when I dragged him inside yesterday! (Obviously, I'm kidding. Please don't leave me comments about how dangerous and foolish it is to invite strangers into my home when I'm here alone!) They are scheduled to go back to the animal shelter on the 31st of May, so hopefully over the course of the next week and a half, they will make even more progress. I would like to keep them a little longer, but they will stand a better chance of being adopted quickly if they are still tiny, and also, I'm going to Norway on the 6th of June! I never got to see the midnight sun in Lofoten while I lived there, so I'm traveling back for a week and flying up to the archipelago with Michele and Victoria, my American expat friends (aka the ladies who kept me sane when I lived in Norway with all their supportive emails and blog comments!) The upshot for you, the reader of my little blog, is that my regular "all kitten and farm animal all the time" programming will soon be interrupted by photos and anecdotes from one of the most beautiful places on earth!

Hey Emily..glad your kitties are doing so well..sounds like you have the "magic" touch..your trip back to Norway sounds exciting, and I have to admit I, for one, can't wait to see more of your breathtaking pictures from there. However, your pictures of your new surroundings are pretty awesome too.. :) Have a safe trip!

Ooohhh, they are too adorable. The little grey one looks like Mr. Baggins when he was a baby. I'm extra proud of you that you're able to give them back!

We're going to have so much fun in Lofoten. At school yesterday, one of the teachers told me about the fishing trip he took there last year. He asked if we were going to fish... I said no, and I may not even go near the water---look what lives there:

Ooops. I should point out that I'm afraid of the big fish, not the Dane. Although he looks a little scary, too...

I am so jealous of your trip something I have wanted to do for years. Well done on the kitties, I still like the black and white one with the pink nose.

You're going to have a great time! I'm so behind on blog commenting since my marathon of trips started; I've only kept up with Michele's, more or less...just not enough time for everything I want to do online. :(

My mom would have loved to go with you guys; she loves snowy mountains and wild Northern Norwegian nature. After 16 relatively unhappy years in Tromsø, I'd have been more reluctant myself, had I been home - but I know you all will have a great time!

PS: My friend here in Boston and I are off to see some newborn kittens tomorrow, one of which she will probably have to take over when it is big enough... They're not too cute at 2 days old though...

Rosemary, I'm buying an extra memory chip for my camera because I'm planning to be a little insane with the photography on this trip!
Michele, I haven't actually brought the kittens back, so don't be too proud of me yet! And yeah, I don't feel the need to hook a 400pound fish!
Joanne, I'm rather partial to that kitten too. She was the one who was the slowest to come around and was still hissing at me while the other ones were starting to purr. Now she is the sweetest one of all, so cuddly and affectionate.
Liz, I hope you're having a great time on your trip, and happy kitten viewing! Emily
