After Pictures to Follow in (Hopefully) 4-6 Weeks

Some people spend Easter Sunday at church, some people spend it feasting on ham with pineapple rings, and some people enjoy hunting for eggs in the backyard. Kevin and I spent our day destroying our downstairs bathroom. This was the bathroom before, in all of its tiny shower, wooden toilet seat, dingy tiled glory:
This is how it currently looks, all gutted and water damaged.
We have big plans, though, and hopefully in about 6 weeks, they will all come to fruition. The bathroom is about the size of a postage stamp (seriously, it's 4x8--so teeny!) but I think it will be gorgeous. We decided to go for a '20's-'30's look, so the walls will be tiled with rectangular subway tiles with a tiny blue glass tile mosaic border around the top of the room. We ordered a beautiful pedestal sink with a vintage faucet which should be here within a month. I'm so excited about the room, but it's hard to envision exactly how it will turn out. At this point, the bathroom is a filthy pit of rubble, so there's really nowhere to go but up!

Oh, and I bet Kevin's going to do all of the plumbing work, isn't he? Ian will be so jealous when he reads this... :-)

I'm sure your bathroom is going to look fabulous; I love the idea of white tile with the blue mosaic trim. Be sure to post the "after" pictures when the work is done!

How exciting!!! Can't wait to see the after pictures.
Will you be replacing the wooden toilet seat? I've never understood the appeal of those things - I think they are gross. No offense if you love it of course - I like my toilets to be pure white from top to bottom. Is that tmi?

Michele, we did hire the same guy who tiled the rest of our house to tile the shower, walls and floor, but yes, Kevin will do all the plumbing himself...he already hooked up the shower. We have spent A LOT of time at Home Depot lately! He was getting a little twitchy in Norway, not being able to do his own repairs, so in his own little tool fueled heaven right now...thankfully he's very good about not sporting any plumber's crack!
Victoria, I know, I hate the wooden toilet seat! (I think the only thing that skeeves me out worse is a vinyl toilet seat--so unsanitary, so painful in an odd way!) The wooden seat is gone now, in fact the whole toilet is being replaced with one from the same company as the pedestal sink so the art deco-y lines match. I'll post pictures as soon it's done. Emily

Hm, the before pic still looks way better than my bathroom, which is about the same size...

Oh gross!!!! The vinyl thing - puke! I agree, worse than the wooden ones. Who comes up with this things?
Also, I'm with Liz, your before picture looks better than our bathroom here, for some reason the toilet smells like pee ALL THE TIME. Totally disgusting - I can't wait to move.
