For the past 24 hours, the local meteorologists have been announcing that a "snow event" is approaching. Unfortunately, if the howling wind and Arctic temperatures are any indication, I think this "snow event" is going to be less about jazz hands and show tunes and more about icy roads and frostbite. Oh well, I'm sitting by the fire with a mug of hot cocoa right now, so bring it on!
(It doesn't sound like Kevin is faring much better in Norway--he said it's currently about -15 Celsius. And he has no cocoa!)

I honestly don't know how you manage the winters! I just flew home via a connection in Denver, and I had to stand on the jet bridge (to wait for my carry on suitcase, which was just a bit too large for the tiny overhead bin in the regional jet) for 5 minutes. I thought I was going to die of hypothermia. I can't believe I used to live in Iowa.
Anyway, as I stood there shivering and jumping around, the men in the line (seriously, it was all men! go figure on that demographic for business travel) asked me "Too cold for you? Where are you from? Ha ha ha" And, my immediate response was, "I'm a Californian, so this temperature is ridiculous!" All the men laughed and said, "Honey, 15-20 degrees is summertime here! You Californians love the sun too much." I don't know if I was offended, or secretly glad, that I am now known as a sun-worshiper...
Kari, I think Kevin and I are going to try to go somewhere sunny this winter--maybe Hawaii? The best part of life in a cold climate--the fun of escaping! Emily
Emily..I can totally relate to your weather conditons..I think I must have moved from Iowa to Iceland!! It looks like a frozen wasteland around here..although the sun shining on the ice covered trees is gorgeous..until they start snapping and falling to the ground!! Yikes!!
I've been reading about the bad weather hitting the U.S. right now and feeling sorry for everyone who has lost their electricity and has to go stay in a shelter. I can't imagine... It's cold here, too, Emily, but nothing like what y'all are putting up with. Sitting inside with a steaming cup of cocoa sounds like the most excellent coping mechanism. Enjoy!
